Installing safely

Three things you may see, and what to do

“Windows protected your PC”Click More info, then Run anyway. It shows for new programs until Windows recognises them.
“Do you want to allow this app to make changes?”Click Yes. Setup needs administrator rights to install the Windows parts and open the firewall for your school network.
Check the file is genuineIn PowerShell, run Get-FileHash .\<setup file>.exe and compare it with the SHA-256 shown with your download.

Setting up a whole exam lab?

Install FideLearn Browser on many computers at once, without clicking through the setup, from an administrator Command Prompt:

"FideLearn Browser Setup 2.1.0.exe" /VERYSILENT /SERVER=192.168.100.2 /PIN=1234 /TASKS="desktopicon"

Use your centre computer's address (from its dashboard) and your own supervisor PIN.

Questions

Downloading FideLearn

Why do I need a download code?

FideLearn for Windows is for schools and tutorial centres on FideLearn. The code ties the download to your school, so only your centre gets your copy, and we can help you if anything goes wrong. It comes in your welcome e-mail.

I don't have a code yet. How do I get one?

Create your school's site on the sign-up page (the Free plan is free for up to 30 students). We set it up and e-mail you the download link and code, usually within one working day.

Is FideLearn for Windows free?

Yes: the programs come with every plan, including Free. Your plan decides how many students you can have and which features are on.

Does it work on Mac, Linux or a phone?

The centre program and FideLearn Browser are for Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit). Students and parents use any phone or computer for the portal, and during exams candidates can also use a phone's browser on your Wi-Fi.

Will updating delete our data?

No. Run the new setup over the old one: your database, photos, questions and backups stay in C:\FideLearn. Take a backup first anyway (Settings, Backup, Back up now).

Windows says “Windows protected your PC”. Is it safe?

Yes. New programs from smaller publishers show this until Windows knows them. Click More info, then Run anyway. To be sure the file is ours, compare its SHA-256 fingerprint with the one shown on this page.

Do I need internet to install?

No. Both setups carry everything Windows needs (Microsoft's WebView2 engine and .NET Framework) and install them only if they are missing. Internet is only needed to download the setup files once.

Not on FideLearn yet?

Create your school's site in five minutes. We e-mail your download link and code, and help you run your first CBT exam.
